Thank you for joining us in support of families affected by violence and abuse.
The world is suddenly not the same. Forced to stay home, we feel a lack of freedom. With so many uncertainties about our safety, we feel a constant underlying fear. We’ll all go on, but we’ll be changed in a fundamental way. What we are feeling now is what victims of domestic violence feel every day.
With that glimpse of their fear, you understand why victims need our help NOW more than ever. We have adapted and expanded our services to meet the new and increased needs of our community. Your support for families affected by violence and abuse is crucial.
The Retreat provides comprehensive services to survivors of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, adult sex trafficking, and stalking. When you support the All Against Abuse Virtual Gala, you support educating our community about intimate partner violence, counseling for those who have been in violent relationships, legal advocacy for those in need of assistance, and emergency shelter for those who have nowhere else to go.
He went to hit me and accidentally hit my daughter, I felt rage and strength rise up inside me, a combination of Celie from The Color Purple and Xena Warrior Princess. That was the first day I ever walked out without looking back.
Someone once told my daughter that when a boy is mean to you, it means he likes you. But I say to them, there is never a time when someone being mean to you is love. Ever. There is never a time when someone hurting you translates to love.
I was scared I couldn’t live without him. But once he was gone, I realized I could provide for my family. I was better off without him. I told him the day I leave you is forever.
My son got caught in the cross fire. He almost got hit and I said to myself, if you’re not gonna leave for yourself, leave for your son. I sold my engagement ring to pay for an attorney to get an order of protection, and we went to The Retreat, to begin to heal.
I know that you have a lot of pain but you didn’t have to take it out on my mom. Did you ever think for a second how this affects not just me but my sisters, your daughters?
